"ihrer" Loks mit in den Ruhestand..

Ich hatte die Ehre den AK680 auf seiner letzten Fahrt von der Fricke-Schmidbauer Niederlassung
nach Holland zu begleiten.
Um jede Verkehrsinsel mußte hinten gelenkt werden.
Da ich allein zum Nachlenken war mußte ich jedesmal den Begleitwagen stehen lassen,nachlenken,wieder zurück zum
Begleitwagen laufen und hinterher fahren.
Hier das letzte Bild an der holländischen Grenze bei der Übergabe an eine holländische Firma.
Mit Reifenschaden;-)

I was told last week the machine has been wrecked in a road accident. It fell down a ravine and the driver was killed.
Can anyone confirm this?

I think you're mixing that up with the "AK 680-4" which still had the original Gottwald lowlin cab on the undercarriage.
That indeed was destroyed a few years ago and at least the undercarriage was scrapped. (We've even had some pictures of that in the forum, but I can't find them right now.)
However, I'm not sure of the crane upper structure. I was told once that it was repaired again and is now used as a pedestal crane.

Sorry,
I did mean the ex Hewden-Stuart unit.
I was under the impression the machine had been mended twice in Sarens ownership after testing accidents.
And I thought that the ravine accident was quite recent from the way I was told the story.

Perhaps you mean the Sarens MDC3500, which fell down in the jungle of mexico.

I suppose that it is just a sort of Sarens capacity advert: 1200 (short) tons equal to 1088 metric tonnes, which for a 3M distance suppose a lifting moment of 3264TM, very close to the original Gottwald 3250TM lifting moment (650T@5M).
