Hi everybody,

Inspired by the models on this forum I have started work on my LR1750 and it has had one coat of paint. I live in Scotland, UK, home of Weldex, and since they have an LR1750 I thought that I should paint my model in their company colours.

The model needs much work yet but I prefer this colour to the Conrad yellow!

Hi Davie - and welcome to the forum.

Very nice model - is it your first custom paint?

Thanks for the welcome, and yes this is my first custom paint.

@ Timmaaaah:

Yes the crawlers will be painted black - I have much work yet to do to the model, and the crawlers are just one part waiting to be painted. However the tracks will have to come off the frames to be painted and I'm not sure how I would do this - I have a lot to learn as far as model painting goes!

I have more text to put on the side of the crane and I'm not sure how some of you guys get your text looking so perfect!

I can ID two questions:

1) How to make nice decals
2) How to apply the nice decals to the model

I can answer the questions from my point of view, but if we could get Erik or Christian to look this way, they could give some more tips...

1) To make nice decals you need good and detailed pictures of the model. Send the pictures to Birger Hennig, who can make decals from your pictures. He is from Germany, but speaks english. If you have seen the models from Erik or Christian - the decals are from Birger.

2) Buy some MicroSet and MicroSol from your modelstore. Apply one of the products (can't remember which) to the model to prepare it for the decal. Apply the decal, and finish off with the other product. This seals the decals.

I think you're gonna do a really nice job on this Davey, I have build a LR 1600/2 in Weldex colors ( from lego) but a little friend of mine made it collapse so...

Here a link to the photo's I've made until now:

Thank you guys - nice lego models Timmaaaah. And thanks very much Kristoffer for the advice! I will maybe try to print my own decals first and I'll see how that goes - decals are new to me! That answers a BIG question!

Here are some photos of recent work - painting the cab interior with acrylic paint and then the window frames with a black marker pen. I have also started to paint the tracks and the undercarriage black.

Work is going on and I'm busy painting the undercarriage just now. I added two features to the cab earlier today using paper clips and superglue - it gives the cab some nice detail and makes it look a bit more realistic, but unfortunately the clear window plastic was broken in the process.

The crawler frames and tracks have had 1 coat of paint but the crawlers will need another coat. After that it's decals and then they're finished (for now)!

I think that the windows of real vranes are not totallyin one piece always also, so I do not think it is a real problem. I also don't think that it is very clear so...

I just finished painting the crawlers and have now made decals for the track frames. I also removed my own hand-painted text from the side of the crane, repainted the area with beige paint and applied printed decals.

There are still some gray pieces to be painted black but at this stage it looks better - I added warning triangles and a wiper to the cab for increased realism. Hope you all like it.

The model is nearly finished - I painted some of the counterweights and have painted the rest of the undercarriage. I had a small accident with one of my decals - I sprayed it lightly with an acrylic varnish and the varnish has damaged it, which is not supposed to happen...

Anyway, I hope to buy some YCC parts for this crane later and I also hope to buy the "other" ballast carrier and paint it in Weldex colours - does anybody know where I can buy it? I see it is specially made by somebody but I have difficulty finding it in online shops!

Here is the crane as I set it up this morning - I am very happy with it!
