Hello Everyone,

I am new to the field of 1/87 scale modelling. Just starting out building up a collection of models (heavy haulage, cranes, construction vehicles etc).

I would like to know how to work out "scale weight" for trailer loads?

What i am trying to say is "i know how to scale down dimensions, but how do i scale down weights"?

Usually, you scale weights by the third power of the dimesional scale:

In case of 1/87:

I.e., something weighing 1000kg in the real world would weigh in 1/87:

Rationale: Density doesn't change with scale, but the volume does (with the third power of linear scale). So weight must also change with the third power of scale.

Caveat: This is a theoretical approach. Real models might be able to carry significantly less (or more!) than the calculated load.
