At the Mobile Cranes there is the AMK 1000 who was once one of the biggest cranes, but this one is too old for me to tell you details, it was way before i was interested in Cranes. Actually you have the AC 700 built by Demag, the LTM 1800 which is (is it still?) built by Liebherr, both are mobilecranes.

Then you have the LR 11350 and the Demag CC8800 which are pretty big ones at the crawler cranes.

For sure you have to take the Mamoet PTC in your list, it is one of the most powerful cranes as far as I know.

What do the others think about it?

The largest single-body crawler-crane built is the Demag CC12600 with a capacity of 1.600 tonnes, but this crane will be upgraded to the 2.000 tonne CC12800 (but no orders yet).

Then there is the 3.200 tonne capacity CC8800 Twin also from Demag, but I don't know how to classify this crane yet - it is constructed of two Demag CC8800-1 put together to one machine with two booms. AFAIK is the first one undergoing test at Demag right now.

Hope this helps.

Best regards

You must also mention the MSG 50 of Mammoet, with the max capacity of 3000 tons.

I have looked around abit and found that manitowoc, Liebherr and Terex/Demag makes some large cranes.

Is it possible to list the cranes you named in a list?

Like this:

1
2
3
4

and so on.

And Sebastian thanks for the link, will check that out

Hi Niklas

Take a look at my website - www.kranliste.dk. Here you can find the largest mobiles and crawlers currently in production from Liebherr and Demag. But some older models are not in my list - like the old Gottwalds...

But a list could look like this:

Telescopic cranes:

1000t - Gottwald AMK1000-103
1000t - Liebherr LTM11000-9.1
1000t - Terex-Demag AC1000/9
800t - Liebherr LTM1800
700t - Terex-Demag AC700
650t - Demag AC650
600t - Gottwald AMK600-93
500t - Liebherr LTM1500-8.1
500t - Terex-Demag AC500-2

Crawlers:

3200t - Terex-Demag CC8800 Twin
2000t - Terex-Demag CC12800
1600t - Demag CC12600
1600t - Terex-Demag CC8800-1
1350t - Liebherr LR11350
1250t - Terex-Demag CC8800
1250t - Terex-Demag CC6800
1200t - Liebherr LR11200
1000t - Terex-Demag CC5800
1000t - Demag CC6400
1000t - Demag CC12000

This is just a start - then there is of course the lattice all-terrain cranes, but here can Sebastians FAQ tell a lot more...

Best regards

Kristoffer

BTW - are you from Sweden or Denmark? Niklas is a common name there....?

Ah thanks for that Kristian. Will find it very useful..

I will only use models that are in production at the moment. Although Im thinking of doing a list of draglines and wireexcavators to.

Im from Sweden. And yes it is a pretty common name over here.

And Sebastian got a point about the cranes not in production yet - but it's only the CC12800 that hasn't been ordered by anyone. The other cranes we will see within a year or so.

Oh...right - the Lampsons...but then there are also the Versa-cranes from Deep South Rigging (can't remember how much they can lift).

Please don't take only the maximum capacity into account without talking about the related radius!

I haven't compared an AC 500-2 (or -1), an AC 1600 or a LTM 1500 8.1 yet by my self (but did Kristoffer, master of capacity diagrams?)

I think maximum load moment is the key not maximum load!

Hi Thomas

You're right - if you really want to know which crane is the strongest, you have to look at the load moment. That changes the list a little. I don't have the load moments at hand on the cranes, but I'm currently re-working the datasheets for my website and then the maximum load moments of each crane will be featured (calculated from the brochures availiable).

@Niklas
In case you don't know what we are talking about: Load moment is a calculated value that states where the crane makes the "best" lift - not the highest payload. The load moment is calculated in ton-meter.
An example:The LTM1800 from Liebherr lifts 800 ton @ 3 meters - 800 x 3 = 2400 ton-meter, but the maximum load moment according to the brochure from Liebherr states a maximum load moment of 2750 ton-meter, which is reached with a payload of 275 ton @ 10 meters - 275 x 10 = 2750 ton-meter.

The load moment are mainly used for the truck mounted cranes from Hiab, Fassi, Effer and so on to tell, how strong the crane is (and not the maximum capacity), and for the mobile cranes it is normally the maximum capacity that signals, how strong the crane is. But the load moment can naturally be calculated for all cranes.

Ahh thanks for that Kristoffer. It seems to be harder to make a list of cranes than the other machines Im making lists of. Gonna look up all the cranes you listed and study them to se if I understand.

But the easiest way to list the cranes is to use the maximum payload - some crane-fanatics (like Thomas and myself) could find an error or two because we also think of the load-moment, when talking about the biggest/strongest cranes, but to make a list of the 10 largest cranes in the world, I would choose the maximum payload as criterium.

It depends on how many details you want to include - some people has also written to me about my website (www.kranliste.dk) and told me what was wrong, and what I should change, but hey - it's my site, so I decide what goes (unless some facts are wrong), so the same goes for you. If you find the maximum payload the best way to make your list, then do it that way (just my 2 cents...)

More questions - write again. People here are more than willing to help.

Du kan också skriva på svenska till mig - jag är fra Danmark...

Like you said, its easier to list max payload. So I will probably do so. For now. Maybe do a more advanced list later when I learn more about cranes.

Räknade ut det när jag såg din hemsidas adress, .dk

Anyway I prefer English so the other members understand what we say. Kristian do you know of any large cranes here in Sweden? I have seen afew but I wasnt very interested in cranes when I saw them so I dont know what models they where.

The larger cranes in Sweden are (to my knowledge):

Telescopic cranes
Demag AC500-1, Kynningsrud
Liebherr LTM1400, Walléns
Liebherr LTM1300, Örnkranar AB
Liebherr LTM1300, Allyft i Östergötland
Liebherr LTM1300, Kynningsrud
Liebherr LTM1300/1, Allkranar AB
Liebherr LTM1300/1, Binsell
Liebherr LTM1250-6.1, Binsell

Crawler cranes / Lattice boom cranes
Demag CC2800-1, Kynningsrud
Liebherr LR1400/2, Walléns

Via this link you can find a list of cranes, belonging to the members of Mobilkranforeningen.

Interesting. More than I thought it would be.

Last summer I worked in the machine garage on a Steel Mill here in the city I live in. And there where three large chimneys on the hot-strip rolling mill that had to be replaced and they used three cranes to remove them. I belive someone said that the largest of the three could lift 450 tons. And I think it was a Terex. There where also one smaller Liebherr to. Dont remember what the 3rd one was.

For some reason I suspected Falun or Borlänge....

Then there is Industrilyft - located in Borlänge. They have a 250t Liebherr LTM1250-6.1 as their largest crane - http://www.industrilyft.se/.

I'm quite interested if pictures of their Liebherr-cranes, so of you ever get the chance...
